Nice to Meet Cha!

My Path to Nursing, and its Dead End:

As the oldest child I found myself taking care of our very sick momma, who did not have a good experience swimming through a health care system that couldn't help her. So, I went to nursing school to see if I could make a difference in the care people experience.

As a nurse, I met many patients like my mom that the system simply couldn't help. Medications treat symptoms but only food and lifestyle change can affect the root cause.

My Own Health Down the Toilet:

Then, I started to watch my own health slip down the path of my mom's.

I was 22 and felt sick and tired ALL. THE. TIME.

I tried energy drinks with ginseng and B12,

I tried going gluten free (which helped a little),

I tried Auto Immune Protocol (which was exhausting and left me hungry all the time),

I tried antidepressants for a short time (which didn't help at all)

My Path to Healing:

Finally, I found Dr. Natasha Campbell McBride's Gut and Psychology Syndrome book.

This book gave me my life back and got me on the right track. I learned that the power to heal my body was there all along hidden in the foods provided by God's beautiful creation. After a year of faithfully building my health through sweat and tears in the kitchen, I transitioned off of GAPS to a diet guided by the Weston A Price Association's recommendations.

...and just in the nick of time, because God has blessed Jabez and I got pregnant with our first baby! I am excited to share the skills I learned which helped me climb my way out of a pit of severe chronic fatigue, leaky gut syndrome, and autoimmunity- and most importantly: restore my gut health, helping me to give my little one their best chance at a leg up from the poor microbiome I was born with.

I'm excited to be able to bring my experience to you in this course which I am confident will have something for you wherever you are in your health journey.

Information Overload?

Feeling overwhelmed by

So You've Read the Book...

Dr Natasha’s methods explained in the GAPS books are so profound. When I picked it up I couldn’t put it down! Despite the brilliance, as someone who was struggling with chronic fatigue at the time, I struggled to piece it all together in my head. I needed someone to talk me through it. Blogs and articles about GAPS on the internet had conflicting information, and I didn’t have the energy to parse out the meat from the bones (pun intended). I created this course to walk through the GAPS diet in realistic bite-sized pieces. I broke up the material out into 12 lessons so you can have time to chew on it. Even if you’re struggling with brain fog, you can learn on a deeper level (and maybe even unlearn some old thinking) as you go through this course. Engage all your senses! Enjoying the visuals, audio, and activities. Feel the newfound motivation rise in your chest. Feel the difference GAPS makes when you are more fully engaged in accurate GAPS approach.

Doubting your abilities in the kitchen?

I grew up on ramen noodles, frozen meals, and drive-through. Parting a chicken with my bare hands felt so beyond me, and the first time I did it with tongs so I wouldn’t have to touch it! Let me be honest, it took OVER AN HOUR. Today, I make a batch of chicken and pull it apart twice a week and it takes me 15 minutes. After learning a new way of thinking, I had to learn a new way of doing. Like learning to tie your shoes, or riding a bike, it can seem insurmountable at first, but once you get the muscle memory, you’ll soon find yourself cooking in your sleep.

Feeling BURNT OUT on restrictive diets?

Maybe you tried AIP, FODMAP, Vegan, Raw Food, etc.) and it ended in a flop.

Once upon a time I personally found some symptom relief from cutting things out of my diet. But as time went on, I found myself becoming sensitive to yet another, and yet another food, and in the end, I didn’t know what to eat and I was HUNGRY! I learned that my situation wasn’t unique, and Dr Natasha spelled it all out for me in her article 'Food Allergy', Essentially, it wasn’t the food’s fault. Milk and eggs weren’t evil after all. My leaky gut’s inability to digest and absorb them properly had to be addressed.

Short periods of fasting on restrictive diets can have some benefit, but after a while many of these diets are not sustainable because they leave you feeling hungry. These diets focus on what you need to CUT OUT of your life. GAPS is less of a ‘cleanse’ and more of a ‘feed’. The foods we eat are incredibly nourishing, feeding your cells the nutrient-dense foods they need to do the hard work of healing they were designed for. Far from hungry, these rich foods will leave you feeling satisfied. To put it simply, GAPS hits the spot!

Feeling alone & afraid of being judged for eating differently?

I remember being criticized for trying different diets because I was “already too skinny”. They didn’t realize it was because my gut was so sick I couldn’t absorb the food I was eating! Others would comment that I ate unusually generous amounts of meat and fats that they had been taught were unhealthy and would cause obesity. Everyone’s body copes with poor gut health differently, often causing a low or high body weight. Health is not about quantity (calories) it is about quality (nutrients). By arming yourself with the WHY behind what you are eating, you can educate your friends who feel so bold as to comment, and maybe even share some simply delicious GAPS foods with them. When the food is good I guarantee they’ll get real quiet real quick. Pretty soon they'll be asking for your recipe.

Group Coaching Reviews

this could be your story

“I thoroughly enjoyed group coaching with River. It’s been nice to be able to meet as a group and encourage one another in our individual journey to a healthier life. I love how she makes it personal through having you send in a weekly food journal with what you eat and thoughts and how you feel in it. And you can get individual feedback on how you are doing and have questions answered. This component really helped me along my journey in doing GAPS Intro. It’s nice to have this encouragement and comfort so I can rest assured that symptoms I feel aren’t wrong and just a normal part of GAPS Intro. I highly recommend you take full advantage of this aspect. Group setting is nice to be able to see everyone and find things in common and learn new things together and be able to support everyone’s unique journey in whatever stage they are on. Through this program I was/am able to take back my health and really make lasting changes in my life. I now am leading a much healthier lifestyle and feeling great healing my gut through GAPS intro and already feeling so much better.”

“I'm so thankful for the opportunity to take River's group coaching. I came in looking to make some dietary changes in my life to help my overall health and wellbeing after a long journey of trying to kick refined foods and sugars from my diet. The course helped outline the importance of sourcing your food from local farmers, the benefits of incorporating different foods into your diet, and the science behind why it works. That alone was a real game changer for me after years of eating food that made me feel physically and mentally unwell. Being in the group dynamic helped me learn a lot from others who were also on this journey, even if they were on a different part of it. I really enjoyed learning from River's abundant knowledge, learning from the collective group, and feeling free to ask questions along the way in a very supportive atmosphere. I think this group coaching is great for anyone who's looking to make a change in their diet for themselves, their family, or future children, and are seeking some guidance and support along the way , no matter where you're at in your journey."”

“I have great respect for River Yeo. Her advice has helped me so much. I went through her GAP coaching class. What I learned really help my gastrointestinal conditions. I learned from River how to eat healthier, and even how to make liver pâté! My joints are better since starting GAPS Journey. I'm 61 years old, and I wished I learned how to eat healthy in my 20's. But, better late than never, and I am feeling so much better already. Thank you River Yeo.”
